Davidson County Schools, North Carolina: Grade 1 -Representing Facts Visually
Ann modeled for grade 1 students how to help researchers and readers capture important images and words in a visual format., activating a multimodal system of understanding. She began with a model with the use of a magazine article, invited the students to share in the creation of the images, then invited students to immediately begin to apply the strategy with their independent reading books.
PROGRAM GOALS: To support the staff in using multimodal teaching techniques to assist students in retaining content resulting in the student’s ability to summarize their understandings orally and in written formats.
